Story
Mary Ann is a born MacDoogal and is part of the Scottish Clan MacDougall.
Ancestors of Mary Ann left the Highlands in the Middle Ages and emigrated to Wessex (south-west England in present time).
Due to the lack of unity in spoken and written language, the name of this clan branch has slightly changed over the centuries.
What remains is the Gaelic Clan Motto 'Buaidh no Bas' (Victory or Death).
It is firmly anchored in the blood of Mary Ann.
Mary Ann's father, Argyle MacDoogal was able to work his way up from a small boat owner to a wealthy merchant with multiple merchant ships. First, he only made small deliveries between cities of the sea tongue around Bristol (the Bristol Channel). However, by skilful trade and partnerships, he soon had a merchant ship and from that on, increased his wealth.
At the end of the 17th century the MacDoogals belong to the upper class of Bristol.
It is the year 1693
We are in the MacDoogal manor house - tonight a reception is to take place.
Trading partners and the envoys of influential politicians from the colonies of the New World (North America) are invited. Argyle wants to build a close 'relationship' to a certain politician in order to secure advantages in the trade routes. Such a 'Company' can not be sealed with a simple contract.
Mary Ann is 15 years old and receives the guests along with her parents and her brother.
What she doesn’t know:
In that night, Argyle MacDoogal will determine her future...
