Japan - 12th century
The Samurai 'Henmi Kiyomitsu' grasps the tendon with his right hand and moves his traditional weapon with his left hand over the head.
Slowly the bow descends forward by an outstretched arm - the tendon is drwan backward.
'Breathe ...'
'Free the mind ...'
'The arrow exists within the target ...'
Release – hit!
Background
Today, the sword is the most famous weapon of a samurai. That was not always like that.
Until the 16th century, the bow was considered 'the indicator' for the art of war.
The bow reaches a 2m asymmetrical height and a weight up to 26 kg is needed to shoot an arrow.
It is an ‘instinct bow’ that, unlike a modern sport bow, does not use a target device or counterweights.
As the Japanese tea-ceremony, even archery can run as a strictly fixed movement-/meditation-ritual.
