Mohawk = scribble drawing

February.24.2015      DIN-A3      16.5 x 11.7 inch

Description

The Mohawk belong to the five tribes of the Iroquois.
Their settlement area is located east of Lake Ontario (on the map it is the 'right' border US / Canada).

As so often, the name they use for themselves, is quite different: "Kanien'kehá:ka - people from the land of the Flint"

The portrait shows a painted Indian (the upper head is red and changes to black, down from the eyes).

You should not confuse 'Mohawk' with 'Mohicans'.
The Mohicans are no Iroquois, but they belong to the Algonquin Indians (enemies of the Iroquois).

Info
The image is a compilation / collection of various contents.
So this is not a whole scene, but an hopefully interesting arrangement of the parts.

Steps

In a scribble drawing my pencil gets a lot of freedom.
The shading is done by ‘wild scribbling’, these are squiggly lines that generate a relatively solid surface impression.
If possible, I do not use hatching.
For a further darkening I use an blue ink pen (on the paper this gives a slight blue tint - here I have converted the image to grayscale)

Hier is a close-up view:

1. Finedrawing with the grid method (without a predrawing)
2. Finedrawing (pencil)
3. Finedrawing (pencil)
4. Finedrawing (pencil)
5. Darkening with a pen
