1 Yama = rules for the public live
2 Niyama = rules for the private life
3 Asanas = exercises
4 Pranayama = breath control and direction of life energy
5 Pratyahara = withdrawal / control of senses (no distraction)
6 Dharana = concentration, only one single thought (calming of all 'thought waves' in one direction)
7 Dhyana = detachment from the concentration (a line of thought without effort)
8 Samadhi = complete calm down of all thought waves and a resulting pure perception
